BT writes from Jerusalem: This has been a year of change in the Middle East. Lebanon has witnessed historic events including the assassination of former prime minister, Rafik Hariri, the subsequent withdrawal of Syrian troops, the first free elections since 1975 (the outbreak of the civil war) and now awaits the results of the investigation into the assassination of Hariri with the expectation that those responsible will be brought to justice. The Lebanese community in Israel (families of the former South Lebanon Army soldiers who took refuge...

BT writes from Jerusalem: In my last letter I referred to winds of change blowing across the Middle East. Since I have worked so long among the Lebanese I have been following the developments in Lebanon with great interest. The dramatic changes have been covered extensively in the media, but I want to include a brief summary in this letter. Syrian troops deployed since 1976 were withdrawn, finalized with a farewell ceremony at the end of April. Syrian troops entered Lebanon as a peacekeeping force early in the civil war, became embroiled in...

Spring MD Breakfast

On Saturday, April 30th, GRMCCF will be hosting Bruce Jackson, Executive Director of the Christian Community Health Fellowship, as our guest speaker. He will be speaking on the topic “Working Among the Poor: A Cross-Cultural Adventure for Health Professionals.” Bruce has this to say about his subject material: “It has often been said that as you walk in another person’s shoes you gain an understanding of that person. Jesus was able to at one moment relate to a person in a position of power and authority and at the next...

BT writes from Jerusalem: First, I have some good news to report. After a long struggle, I have a happy ending to the story of my visa. Finally I was granted temporary residency. That means that I can continue my work here without worrying about my legal status to stay. The timing was quite remarkable. Previously, just when my request for a visa had been denied and appeals had been unsuccessful, the government fell and after the elections the interior ministry was given to a new political party. The new minister reviewed my case and granted...

Strategic Intercessory Prayer… If we are to succeed at anything, it must be accompanied by prayer. How many of the saints throughout the ages have echoed this refrain? Our success at anything is tantamount to our success in prayer. Are you looking for a place of solitude? Are you looking for people to pray with you or for you? Do you need someone to help hold you accountable? For any reason, you are welcome to come and use our Prayer Chapel or join our network of people who are praying for this ministry and the people connected to it....

Embracing Options

Please welcome our newest program, Embracing Options, an urban crisis pregnancy center we’re developing under the sponsorship of Care Net! We previously reported our plans to you when we were calling our new project the Pregnancy Care Center of Rochester. However, after much prayer and sharing with some young people in one of the programs here in the city, we’ve decided to change the official name to one that is more “user friendly” in our neighborhood. We believe that a major part of reaching women with crisis...

New Pregnancy Care Center

On December 3, 2004, 30 potential volunteers gathered in the conference room at His Branches to discuss the possibilities of joining in the effort to establish the new PCC. We were overwhelmed by the response and are thrilled with the level of interest and passion for this issue. In January we will hold our very first training for the new PCC in which anyone interested in volunteering as a counselor will be able to receive formalized training through the help and leadership of Dee Skelton and the Palmyra Care Net office. Dates for the...
