It’s a great MLK Weekend!

INFORMATION ON MLK WEEKEND:

Luminary Kit making party

Join the fun and make luminaries at the 19th Ward Community Association office, 216 Thurston Road on Sunday, January 17, from 1:00 – 3:00 pm.

Get your luminaries:

Luminaries are available at the office during office hours; on Sunday, 1/7, during the kit making; and at the Arnett Café on Monday, January 18, from 4-6 pm. Or make your own luminaries by following  the instructions found here. Canning jars also work well.

Events:

On Martin Luther King Day (Monday, January 18) set your luminaries out in front of your home between the sidewalk and the curb from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Light them up, and take a stroll around the neighborhood to enjoy the light and the friendship. Many streets will host ‘hotspots’ with bonfire, hot chocolate, cookies, etc. St. Monica Church will be hosting a coat giveaway starting at 3:00 pm. Aberdeen Square will be lit up, Brue Coffee will be offering warm drinks at a discount, Arnett Café will be ‘headquarters’ with warmth provided. Many more hotspots can be found throughout the neighborhood. Visit www.luminaryevening.com for more information and a map of hotspots.

Music Series 2016

The Friends of the Arnett Library are once again hosting a music series on Saturdays. Look forward to music from noon – 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 16, February 13, March 12, and April 9. This month, on Saturday this week is Quintensity, a woodwind quintet from Eastman School of Music featuring flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn. The students will introduce and explain each instrument.

Candlelight Dinners

If you haven’t participated in the past, this is a casual yet elegant event. We share dinner in various homes, meet someone new, have great conversations with folks we haven’t seen, and always enjoy a nice evening. You can sign up to host or be a guest. If you are a Host, you don’t have to do any of the inviting, we do that for you. You simply need to make the main dish, and ask your guests to contribute a complementary side or dessert. If you are a Guest, we will let you know which house you are going to, and the host will call you to talk about the menu and set the time. If you haven’t already made your reservations this is the time to call 328-6571, or email 19thward@19wca.org. We need to have all reservations by Wednesday, January 20.
