Who is this calling to us?
“Coming Back to Life” is a song from Pink Floyd’s 1994 album The Division Bell, credited to David Gilmour. The lyrics and the haunting melody and rhythms that infuse them with mystery and power have long been a subject of awe and speculation among Pink Floyd devotees. There is a presence and aura to the work that seems to reach across from the prophetic realm of the great beyond.
Could this be a message for our times, waiting for its fulfillment in our midst? Who is this who was “burned and broken” and yet yearned over us with such angst and hope? Ponder the lyrics and watch and pray while you listen…
Where were you?
Where were you when I was burned and broken
While the days slipped by from my window watching
And where were you when I was hurt and I was helpless
Because the things you say and the things you do surround me
While you were hanging yourself on someone else’s words
Dying to believe in what you heard
I was staring straight into the shining sun
Lost in thought and lost in time
While the seeds of life and the seeds of change were planted
Outside the rain fell dark and slow
While I pondered on this dangerous but irresistible pastime
I took a heavenly ride through our silence
I knew the moment had arrived
For killing the past and coming back to life
I took a heavenly ride through our silence
I knew the waiting had begun
And headed straight into the shining sun
